meet abby!

Photography isn’t just a job for me—it’s a deeply personal passion that I inherited from my grandpa, who was not only my best friend but also the one who first taught me to see the beauty in everyday moments. He passed his love for photography on to me, and every time I pick up my camera, I feel like I’m continuing his legacy. I don’t want to be just your photographer—I want to be your friend, your cheerleader, and the person who helps you remember your day as one of the best days of your life.

a little bit about me

Hi there! I’m Abby — a midwest girl who found her home in the  landscapes of Illinois.

I began working as a preschool teachers assistant right out of high school while also following my love for storytelling, and genuine human connection, and decided to turn it into a career as a photographer.

My passion for photography started with my grandpa—my best friend, and the one who first handed me a camera and showed me the beauty in everyday life.

When I’m not out capturing timeless memories, you’ll find me living a slower kind of joy. I love crocheting cozy creations, staying in with a good movie, trying new recipes in the kitchen, baking sweet treats, hitting the gym, spending time outdoors playing pickleball or hiking, and spending time with the people I love most.

I believe photography is more than just pictures—it’s about trust, connection, and preserving moments that mean the world. I’m here not just as your photographer, but as your friend, your hype girl, your prayer warrior, and the one who helps you relive the best day of your life for years to come.

Why photography by abby?

My passion for photography began with my grandpa—my best friend, my biggest inspiration, and the one who first taught me how to see the world through a lens of wonder. He had this quiet, gentle way of noticing things that most people overlooked: the way sunlight filtered through the trees, the texture of weathered wood on an old barn, or how the sky lit up just before a storm rolled in. To him, everything had beauty—it just needed someone to slow down enough to capture it.

Some of my favorite memories are the long walks we’d take around his farmland. He’d always have his camera slung over his shoulder, and before long, I would be doing the same. We’d spend hours exploring the fields, stopping to photograph wildflowers, curious squirrels, or the way the wind moved through the corn. He never rushed. Every photo was a moment, and every moment was a chance to see something new.

As we walked, he taught me everything he knew—how to frame a shot, how to find good light, how to adjust the focus until it felt just right. But more than that, he taught me how to fall in love with the act of seeing. He believed beauty was everywhere, and photography was simply the tool to help remember it.

Those quiet afternoons on the farm are where I first learned to tell stories without words, and they’ve shaped every part of who I am today. Every time I pick up my camera, I feel like I'm back on the farm walking around with grandpa — in the way I frame a photo, in the way I chase golden hour, in the way I pause to really see before I click the shutter.

He had this calm, patient way of turning the simplest spaces into something magical. We’d walk around his beautiful home together, wandering from room to room, searching for the perfect pockets of light—sun streaming through the kitchen window, a cozy corner in the living room, or the soft shadows dancing across a hallway wall.

He’d pose me gently, guiding me with a smile and showing me how to stand, where to look, how to relax in front of the camera. As he snapped the photos, he’d explain what he was doing—teaching me how to style people, how to find the light, how to make someone feel seen and special. And every time he looked at me through that lens, it felt like I was his favorite person in the world. Those moments weren’t just lessons in photography—they were lessons in love, patience, and the art of making people feel beautiful.

Photography is so much more than just a job to me—it’s a way to carry on my grandpa’s legacy, to honor the love, creativity, and quiet joy he passed down. Every photo I take is a piece of him that I hold close, a way to keep him near even though he’s no longer here. Through the lens, I’m able to share the magic he taught me to see in the world—the beauty in the small moments, the fleeting light, the connection between people. Each shot is an opportunity to carry forward what he showed me: that the world is full of stories waiting to be told, and every moment deserves to be captured with heart and soul.

When I photograph a couple, I don’t just focus on the perfect shot—I aim to create an experience that feels real, like the love they share is radiating through the frame. I’ve learned that the best moments aren’t always posed or planned; they’re the in-between ones—the laughter, the quiet exchanges, the look in someone’s eyes that says more than words ever could. My grandpa showed me that beauty isn’t just about how something looks; it’s about how it makes you feel. And that’s what I aim to capture: the raw, unfiltered emotion that makes each moment unforgettable.
